Satisfied with myself for the day, my mom and I strolled home thru the park, literally stopping to smell the roses (actually the Linden trees). There was a charming community garden I had never noticed before. We wondered aloud if we could enter. Becky emerged from behind towering bushes and flowers and rested on the chain link fence and invited us to weed with her. She had a big smile on her face, her hair was disheveled and she was pretty sweaty, as you get when gardening. I already had my strangers for the day, and as much as I wanted to photograph her anyway, the voice in my head kept telling me there is no way she would say yes. After we talked with her for a while, I wanted to photograph her even more. She was so vibrant. I got up my nerve and asked, expressing my complete understanding if she said no. She laughed and said yes immediately and invited us into the garden. Day 5 of my stranger day was very fruitful. I asked three people, three people said yes. I’m excited for the next 25 days.
